Questions/Concerns from Franklin Staff

 

1. Can you guarantee 16:1 or will the numbers creep up? If we use our allocation in this way, and then our regular education enrollment increases, will be ineligible for increased allocation because our class sizes are still small?

 

2. Who will do district required ESL assessments?

 

3. How will the bilingual part work?

 

4. What will the allocation of space be like?

 

5. Will communication with parents remain the responsibility of the bilingual resource specialist?

 

6. How will the classroom teacher’s job change? How will they get the skills they need to effectively support ESL students?

 

7. Can class placements be influenced? Some students are having so much difficulty acquiring language, that it would be difficult for them to be in a bilingual class and be exposed to two languages.

 

8. What is the timeline for hiring the bilingual teacher(s)?

 

9. At what point will you begin to plan the logistics and details of the plan? What is the role of teachers in planning? Can they participate and to what extent?

 

10. How will people be kept informed?’
